Looking for fun things to do? Every city has its fair share of events like concerts, festivals, street fairs, shows and other events, but there are also a lot of unique events that stand out from the rest. Some of these unique events are large like Bay to Breakers in San Francisco, but there are also some little-known events that are worth checking out. The M Ride team has compiled a list of awesome events in every city that you should definitely check out.

There are a lot unique events in the United States, so it would be difficult to carve out enough time to see them all. Here are a few that are worth a look:

Groundhog Day: Taking place in the tiny western Pennsylania town of Punxsutawney, this annual event may seem tame. It’s just a small crowd of people watching to see if the infamous groundhog sees it’s shadow, right? While the groundhog ceremony is the reason for the event, it has become quite the crazy party. The large amount of colleges, within driving distance to Punxsutawney has made it possible for a lot of young partiers to make the trip. If you ever get the chance to go, get ready for one of the weirdest fun parties you will ever attend.

Bay to Breakers: What started as an innocent, competitive foot race across San Francisco back in 1912 eventually mutated into huge party. Sometime in the mid 1980’s participants started wearing costumes, which then lead to drinking and floats and a lot less focus on running. The biggest years for the race brought over 100,000 people, giving it the honor of the world’s largest footrace. Although city restrictions toned down the party atmosphere by monitoring drinking, it is still an event worth checking out at least once.

The Preakness: While you may not know much more about horse racing than the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness (the second part of the Triple Crown) is an event in Baltimore that is about 5% horse racing and 95% party. Partiers of all ages filter into the infield and spend the day drinking, dancing and horsin’ around (yeah, we went there).
